One of the many museums I went to was The Natural History Museum ... some amazing exhibits ... but an even more amazing building. So stunning, and worth visiting just to see that -

One of the places I visited while I was in London, was Ham House, Richmond ... an amazing history. Owned by a mother & daughter during the riegns of King Charles I & II, as well as the Commonwealth. Lots of money, and some fascinating furnishings ( Read more... )

One of the places I wanted to visit was The Guildhall .. both for the building itself, and also to see the Roman Amphitheeatre However what I didn't realise there was a lovely art display, of Victorian art ... some beautiful pictures -

Oe of the main reasons I go to London is to commemorate Remembrance Weeken.  So, as I posted a couple of days ago I was at the actual Cenotaph.  However the other place I visit is that of the Field of Remembrance at St Margaret's Westminster.  I plant a cross of remembrance for Dad in The Home Guard (that he served in during WWII), one in The ( Read more... )

As you can see, I was nowhere near the cenotaph, but was able to watch on a big screen, and then enjoy the march past ... A few hours later I walked back down Whitehall and saww the wreaths

At long last, some pictures from Istanbul .... On day 2 we did a trip along the Bosphorus, and was the only time it rained.

However the first set of photos are from the Grand Bazaar ... a place you need a map for as there are 25 entrances!  The next are of the Spice Bazaar, smaller, but all in all fascinating.

One of the cities that we all liked, yet none of us had heard of, was Bursa. It is a centre for silk, but also the resting place of the first 2 Sultans of The Ottoman Empire.

Osman I's grave has an armed guard around it, and we arrived just in time to see the changing of the guard. One of his sons, Orhan is buried in the second Mausaleum. Both of ( Read more... )

One of the places we went to in Turkey was Troy.  It was great to say that I have been there, and yes I saw the horse that Brad Pitt went into the city in (in the film), but other than that it is not all that interesting (after seeing Ephasus & Pergammon).  But still I am glad I have been there -
